1971 Nishijin Model A Kyoto (Aoi Umi - Super Tulip)

Well I showed a sneak peak of this machine half finished a few posts down. (link) Well it is finally done. I personally always love how nice the Model A machines turn out. We don't have as many of them but when we clean them up they turn out nice. Basically as I stated in the previous post, we bought this machine in pieces so we had no clue what was missing or what it looked like before it got torn apart. But I will say it sure turned out great for a few bins of parts. :)

Background on the machine: 1971 build year, Kyoto is the plant it was manufactured in (Tokyo was the other plant and lasted longer than the Kyoto plant.) Aoi Umi - this means Blue Sea in japanese, which explains why all the parts are navy blue. And the theme is a Super Tulip, which is named after the tulip in the center.

The outer chrome frame on this machine was in rough shape. It was very badly pitted and rusted. So we ended up painting it a semi-gloss black. We liked how it turned out. It makes the machine act like a picture frame and the art is the playfield in the center.

We also reveneered the front wood frame and then stained it a cinnamon color. The old front had a few big chips and quite a few cracks in the original veneer. Also as typical over time the clear on the old front had heavily yellowed.
